GROUND SOURCE HEAT PUMP REBATE
The Ground Source Heat Pump Rebate Program will provide up to $15,000,000 for the installation of ground source heat pump (GSHP) systems. Funding for GSHP systems has been allocated by the New York Public Service Commission through the Clean Energy Fund (CEF) and is available only for projects located on sites that pay, or, in the case of systems installed as part of new construction projects, will pay the SBC/CEF surcharge. Rebates must be passed along to Site Owners.

New Solar Paint Transforms Your House Into A Source of Clean Energy
Researchers have developed a solar paint that can absorb water vapour and split it to generate hydrogen -- the cleanest source of energy. The paint contains a newly developed compound that acts like silica gel, which is used in sachets to absorb moisture and keep food, medicines and electronics fresh and dry. But unlike silica gel, the new material, synthetic molybdenum-sulphide, also acts as a semi-conductor and catalyses the splitting of water molecules into hydrogen and ox

Renewable Energy Microgrids Can Tap into $1.5B from New York RFPs
Workers install solar panels near Poughkeepsie, NY New York plans to make up to $1.5 billion available for green energy, opening up another funding source for renewable energy microgrids in the state. Announced late last week by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the pot of money will create the largest renewable energy procurement to date by the state. To show the scale of the endeavor, the Alliance for Clean Energy New York (ACE NY) estimated that the funding may result in 600 and 1,600 MW

Scientists stunned by Antarctic rainfall and a melt area bigger than Texas
A sheet of meltwater lasted for as long as 15 days in some places on the surface of the Ross Ice Shelf, the largest floating ice platform on Earth, during the Antarctic summer of 2016. (Agence France-Presse via Getty Images) Scientists have documented a recent, massive melt event on the surface of highly vulnerable West Antarctica that, they fear, could be a harbinger of future events as the planet continues to warm. In the Antarctic summer of 2016, the surface of the Ross Ic

EIA: Power sector coal consumption drops to lowest point since 1984
Dive Brief: Power plants in the United States consumed 677 million short tons of coal last year, the smallest amount since 1984, according to new analysis from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Coal consumption last year was 35% lower than in 2008, when production reached its highest level. The coal industry is also aging: According to EIA the capacity-weighted average age of operating coal facilities is 39 years. Dive Insight: An aging coal sector is consuming less

Madison County earns Clean Energy Community designation for commitment to cut costs, reduce energy c
Madison County today announced it has been designated a Clean Energy Community by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, recognizing its leadership in reducing energy use, cutting costs and driving clean energy locally. Announced by Governor Cuomo in August, the $16 million Clean Energy Communities initiative supports local government leaders across the State to implement energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainable development projects in their

Wind and solar in March accounted for 10% of U.S. electricity generation for first time
Source: U.S. Energy Information Administration, Electric Power Monthly For the first time, monthly electricity generation from wind and solar (including utility-scale plants and small-scale systems) exceeded 10% of total electricity generation in the United States, based on March data in EIA’s Electric Power Monthly. Electricity generation from both of these energy sources has grown with increases in wind and solar generating capacity. On an annual basis, wind and solar made

Bill in NY legislature would let Tesla quadruple store locations in state
Tesla Store Los Angeles [photo: Misha Bruk / MBH Architects] Tesla's five New York state stores could increase four-fold should a new piece of legislation pass the state legislature. The bill calls for an increase "certificates of registration for entities that manufacture or assemble zero-emissions vehicles." In turn, it would "authorize 20 certificates with at least five to be located in certain upstate regions," a potentially major shift beyond Tesla's current five store l

U.S. Renewable Energy Jobs Employ 800,000+ People and Rising: in Charts
Twice as many Americans now work in the wind industry as in coal mining, and solar employs many more, but the U.S. still trails the EU and is far behind China. China leads the world in renewable energy jobs. In the U.S., solar and wind industry employment has skyrocketed in recent years, but now the Trump administration is trying to stop it.
